Halloween 2022 was the year of Costumes!

I took on the challenge to wear a different costume at school the whole two weeks leading up to Halloween. It was the easiest days of work for me because when costumes are allowed, I can literally wear whatever I want!

Dallin was a mad scientist for Halloween. We pulled up pictures of Grandpa Papa when he dressed up as a mad scientist to get ideas for his costume. 

 

We used Jeremy's old Hormel lab coat, and filled it with trinkets, goggles and things laying around the house. I gelled up Dallin's hair with orange glitter gel, and it turned out pretty dang good!

At the ward activity, Jeremy was a soccer referee and I was Mulan.

Coming home from school after a long day. 

Another one of our weekly primary Activities. We had so many simple and meaningful things each week. It was really fun to see the kids thrive and get to know each other during this time.

We went to a Halloween Party for adults only at the Napoli's home was really cool.

All of our accessories and props were things that we already owned, including the painting that Jeremy did in college when learning about VanGough.

At the party, we caught ourselves in the mirror and were pretty amazed at how good we looked. So we had to get more pictures.

Carving Pumpkins. I think this was the year that we bought pumpkins at Ralph's because we were too busy to find time to go to a patch. (I was getting fairly consumed with starting classes for Shrek at this point). The boys did a great job carving their jack-o-lanterns all by themselves with me acting as a spectator.

At school on Halloween day, my third grade students came in to the first grade classrooms to sing Ghost of Tom. It was adorable. Earlier that week, we also had the first graders sing "Haunted House" in front of the whole school at the Monday morning assembly. It was really adorable, too. The only drawback was that our Mr. Principal would not allow parents to come and watch the assemblies or participate in the Halloween parties.

Halloween Dinner! We did our best to stick with tradition to make and eat some mummy dogs!!

Dallin suggested we use make-up to enhance his costume. We made it look like smoke got all over him from an explosion. So cute!

He also added these pins on his coat to look more brainy and wild.

Here, you can see that I used pony tails to make his hair stand up better. He was the bomb!!

Tanner dressed up as BYU player [insert name here] . He collected and shopped for all the accessories largely on his own using amazon, and totally nailed it down to the arm paint about his mom that the player does at every game. Jeremy made a post about this on social media and tagged [the player]. He saw it and made a comment. he even offered to send a fun package of merch. Tanner looked amazing and was so happy and proud of his costume!!

Here we are about to go trick or treating, first time living in the Pentuckett home!! This year it was me, Jeremy, Dallin and Tanner in our group. We chose not to go with other families so that we could have more choices in exactly where we trick or treated, and so we could be able to see all the excitement around Altedena.

The sunset was amazing on Halloween night, with amazing Alpen glow, lighting our way longer than daylight normally does. It made the whole evening extra magical.

I'm not sure if this is a trend everywhere now, but people in North Park San Diego go all out with yard decorations for Halloween, more than Christmas. And in some parts of the neighborhood, like Altadena, the streets are filled with families. Kids and parents walking around, home owners out on their lawns and front porches having parties and ready to hand out candy without anyone needing to ring the doorbell and wait. It feels like walking through an organized festival or a special day at Disneyland, but it's just our neighborhood!

We ended the night at Uncle Zombie's house. He puts on a neat display with new themes every year. 

Admiring the loot when we get home is everyone's favorite part of the whole night, including mine. Everything is so relaxed, cozy, and full of happiness. It was a wonderful Halloween!!!
