July 2021

July 2021 was a really fun month!

Dallin making Alex's chocolate chunk cookies from his Minecraft cookbook. This cookbook really got him excited about cooking on his own.

After making the cookies, Dallin decided to take them to people. We can't remember why he did this, cuz it wasn't for his birthday. He must have just been doing a random act of kindness!

We ate on the carpet because our table was too dirty and we didn't feel like cleaning it.

Another fun time at the beach. Usually when we go, we spend an hour or so there. This time we took Owen with us and the boys had a blast.

In July, there are a bunch of fir trees in our neighborhood like this one at the pool that make the most delcious citrus smell. They are Sarahlynn's favorite tree of all time, with Jacaranda being her top favorite.

A cominc strip that Dallin made. During this time it was very common to see these around the house. They boys loved making comics.

Doing homeschool at Subway. I figured out that the best way to get the boys to do schoolwork is to their work in public, like the library or restaurants. Something about being out in public helped eliminate push back from the boys, no arguments and negotiations when others are watching! 

Dallin did Junior Lifegaurd camp all by himself this summer. He wasn't so excited about being alone.

ROutine check up at the doctor. Dallin took a tape measure with him as part of his homeschool work. He had fun measuring everything in the waiting room, and I felt like a genius homeschool teacher.

4th of July 2021

This post starts at the end of the day works backwards. We enjoyed fireworks at the harbor. Jeremy dropped us off, then parked at his free work parking lot and joined us after we found a spot. 

It was the first firework show we had seen since 2018. That's because in 2029, we just did stuff at the new house trying to get settled from moving to San Diego, and 2020 was shut down. So everyone in our family was super excited to see fireworks. Everyone in the city was super excited, too.

The show was so awesome. There were 4 different island pods on the water that shot off in the harbor, all in sync to each other and to music. A lady in front of us was a little drunk and so excited to see everything. It made the evening extra fun to hear her silly comments. Everyone cheered and clapped and it felt so great to be out and to have some normalcy and to be around so many people.

Earlier that day, we went to Old Town to see some history and appreciate the people before us, since 4th of July is a day to remember our country's history. It was one of the first weekends that the little museums and shops were open since COVID shutdowns, and it was our first time seeing some of the buildings.

The day before 4th of July we went to the beach. It was a little chilly, but a lot of fun. I helped the boys make drip sand castles and I practiced ukulele.

As usual, I had fun wearing festive clothing all week. It was a really great holiday, low key this year as far as parties and guests, and higher key with the big firework show!!
