During the weekend of Sept 20, we had the special privilege of entertaining Grandma and Grandpa Davidson! They came to meet baby Dallin, their great-grandson, and enjoy some places where Grandpa served his mission here in Minnesota. We had a super wonderful visit with them!
We drove up to the city on Friday to pick Gma and Gpa up from the airport. Then, we went to the Flour Mill Museum in downtown Minneapolis. Jeremy went there with MomZ a few weeks earlier and was so excited to show us the musuem. At first, I thought it was a flower museum and thought, okay cool! But then when he clarified that it was a FLOUR musuem, I wasn't as excited.
Luckily, this place exceeded our expectations. It was amazing! This is an old flour mill that General Mills used to own. Check out the view of where this place is on the river in the city!
We learned how the factory worked by riding a cool elevator tour and exploring the different hands-on exhibits.
The museum brought back a lot of memories for Gma and Gpa, so it was fun hearing their stories while we toured around. It made the whole place more real.
I learned how a mill actually works by playing with these water mill exhibits. Jeremy was so excited to teach us everything!

In the past, part of the building blew up from a factory accident. They kind of preserved the "ruins" and it looks really neat. Some people think it looks neat enough to use it for weddings! There was actually a wedding starting as we were leaving the museum.
For dinner, we went to a hip pizza place. (sorry no pics of this) They bake the pizzas in 90 seconds in a wood fire oven. We all agreed it was different from any pizzas we've had. Grandpa's pizza was the yummiest.
On Saturday morning, we went to Todd Park in town to watch Jeremy compete in the annual Hormel Corporate Softball Tournament. Grandma took Tanner to the playground for awhile and he was in heaven digging in the sand with her. Hormel fed us hotdogs and Spamburgers for lunch. Jeremy said he felt like he was in Little League again because every time he looked up from the field, he saw his grandparents watching him!
At home, we enjoyed the sun on the back porch.
That afternoon, we took them to the Spam Museum. Grandma and Grandpa loved it and said now they know more about Flour and Spam than they ever wanted to know!
Grandma lifted this crate of Spam without any trouble.
Tanner showed them how to assemble the Spam cans in this exhibit (below). At your "work stations" you get timed and we make it a competition. After about 20 seconds, Gpa announced, "I'm done! That was easy." But then we realized he only did one can. "Grandpa, you have to do six of them! Hurry, Grandma is beating you!"
On Sat night, we watched the BYU vs Utah game. Grandpa is a Ute, so we had both teams represented. The game went super late because of the time zone we're in. I think Jeremy was the only one that watched the whole thing.
A few times during the weekend Tanner said "Gampa, you very old." (with an emphasis on the 'very'). I admit that I influenced those comments. I wanted Tanner to understand that his great-grandparents are older than his normal grandparents. I wanted him to understand how special it was that they were here with us!
On Sunday, we went to church, ate at the ward potluck, then rested. I think we went to the nature center? But if we did, there are no pictures. We had a nice dinner at home, and a great time visiting, getting the full low down of all our cousins.
We picked some rhubarb from our yard and Grandma made the yummiest oatmeal rhubarb cobbler for us! Then, Grandma and I went visiting teaching to a lady from church who is a refugee from Sudan. She has become a good friend of mine. All three of us had a great visit together! I loved having Gma with me as a companion, and that was one of my favorite things we did the whole weekend.
Gpa, Tanner and Jeremy played basketball for a long time in the basement. They were completely tuckered out when we got home!
Monday morning came too soon! Grandma and Grandpa had to leave. But not before lots of hugs, fist pumps and ET phone home. Tanner was sad when they left and didn't want to watch them drive away.
We had SUCH a fantastically wonderful visit with Grandma and Grandpa. Tanner and Dallin got tons of one-on-one time with each of them. And I think my favorite part was how much smiling and giggling and laughing we did together! It was a great recipe for fun with Grandma's giggles, Tanner's silliness, Dallin's smiles, Jeremy's sense of humor and Grandpa's teasing and jokes! We love them and feel so lucky to have them as our grandparents!!
